Teeth cleaning and general consultations
Cleaning your teeth on a regular basis does of course keep them looking nice and white, but a number of people are not aware of the fact that this simple task can actually help your overall health. Failure to clean your teeth will of course lead to gum disease and apart from causing problems with your teeth it can also increase the chances of you developing issues such as diabetes, a stroke, or even heart disease.
It is for these reasons that you are advised to have your teeth cleaned professionally at least twice a year so all of the plaque and tartar can be removed because no matter how hard you brush it can still build over time. Doing this will result in lowering your chances of developing problems such as gum disease, gingivitis and also stops cavities from forming. Plus, considering it is pain free and only takes an average of 30 minutes it's certainly well worth spending the time having it done. Here, at Charles E. Roberts DDS, we provide a wide range of cleaning services from regular check-ups to whitening.
Composite fillings
For well over a century all cavities would be filled with a mixture that contained a variety of ingredients including both silver and mercury and indeed it was common to see people with dark patches on their teeth where the cavities had been treated. However, that has now all changed as composite fillings now exist and they will be able to fill any holes in your teeth with a color that matches the rest so there is no longer the need to have dark patches when you smile. These fillings are made from a resin that is colored to match your teeth perfectly and they work just as well as the earlier versions as they will seal the area and prevent further tooth decay.
In order to determine if composite fillings are for you we take the following points into consideration:
- Whether or not the patient may be allergic to it
- Whether the tooth is used a lot for things such as chewing
- How big an area has to be filled
- If the patient themselves want this option or are happy with the metal filling
- Whether there is a need from a cosmetic point of view for this to be used
Extractions
Extractions are the last resort as most dentists prefer to treat teeth as much as possible at first. At times, however, a tooth will have to be extracted to prevent problems with others either through decay, gum disease, or even due to poor positioning that may obstruct others from coming through.
At Charles E. Roberts DDS our main concern is the welfare of our patients so we always make sure that we provide people with the highest possible standard of dental care no matter if you are an existing patient or a new one to our practice.
